I don’t really like having to make and send Thinking of You cards – but the Awesomely Artistic set made it easier recently.
One of my friends at work unexpectedly lost his Mum, and has consequently been having a tough time. He was off work for a month due to complications with getting things sorted out at home, and we are pleased to have got him back in the office today.
In the meantime we sent him a card to let him know that we were thinking of him – and I made it with the Awesomely Artistic stamp set.
I wasn’t originally taken with this set, but having used it at the Telford training day, and seen it used very effectively by other Demonstrators and crafters online, I was caught and ended up investing. And having made this card I am really glad that I did. I stamped the flower image in Crumb Cake ink and then used my blender pens to pick up cherry cobbler and old olive inks to colour the leaves and flowers. I was not “careful” with my colouring, and due to the nature of the blender pens, the images ended up shaded by virtue of the ink being diluted by the solution in the pens! I did try to stay within the lines, but I wasn’t precious about how the shading went. And I was really pleased with how it turned out.
Having added the sentiment from Sassy Salutations in crumb cake ink and some of the leaves from Awesomely Artistic in old olive, I was done. I layered the image onto a mat of old olive cardstock, and made the card base from some of the new thick whisper white cardstock. It was well received and our colleague was pleased to know that he was thought of.
Give this technique a try – it is very relaxing if you aren’t precious about getting things “perfect” for shading and colouring, and it is easily done while watching TV of an evening. I definitely want to make a few more cards like this, but hopefully for happier occasions with cheery sentiments.
And it being Wednesday, that means there are new weekly deals, too!
I have published details of my Open House event on my Demonstrator website, but have unfortunately run out of time to add them here, so click on the “order online” button above to find out more, and I will endeavour to share all of the details with you here tomorrow. Have a great evening!
