The Build a Birthday stamp set is amazingly versatile for making quick cards for birthdays and other occasions involving cake – Wedding cards, anyone? You can also use the coordinating Washi tape to make different layers, and turn the layers around to create candles instead. I am loving using this stamp set to make birthday cards for people at work because they can all be different without too much effort and without needing lots of stamp sets out. The coordinating washi tape makes it easy to create effective multi-coloured layers for your cakes without having to spend a long, long time inking up the stamps with marker pens or similar. One thing I *just* realised while writing this is that these stamps would work perfectly for the baby wipe reinker technique… This would make a fabulous rainbow cake effect, which is so popular in the current climate.
So on to the card:
This card is simple, and it was purposefully kept that way to let the cake be the star of the show. I went with framing the cake in a circle cut from the base card, and stuck the Whisper White panel behind the cut aperture. The blue banners with stars are made from some sparkly washi tape I bought in Hobbycraft and I stuck it to some cardstock then punched a couple of banners from it. I topped those banners with a Crushed Curry banner to form a triad as odd numbers provide a better balance to your projects than groupings of even numbers in designs like this. The sentiment was cut with the new washi label punch, which I love though this is the first time I have used it! I plan to use it many more times, though, especially for greetings and sentiments on my Christmas cards…
I have been making the shaker cards from the new Christmas card kit in the Autumn/Winter seasonal catalogue, and while I loved them then I saw them in the catalogue, now I adore them! I am definitely going to be buying more of those kits and making lots of them. They are so easy to make, and also look really good, especially with the foiling on the card blanks. Very luxurious. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest and the Web generally for making cards and other projects with the seasonal catalogue goodies, so be sure to check those out. I need to get making my swaps for OnStage Live in November (I don’t want to leave that until the last minute) and my Christmas cards so that I can send and sell them in plenty of time for the Festive period. Hopefully I will be able to share those with you very soon. I will get photos uploaded of the Shaker cards, too, and share them with you. Hopefully I will be able to do them justice.
One idea I have is to maybe make some Christmas cake cards using the Build a Birthday set, and create the cake in Christmassy tones and decorate it with glitter and snowflakes and shimmer and shine. I could even use some of the small stamps like the ones in the Jingle all the Way set, or the Project Life Hello December 2015 stamps to provide the cak topper! I’ve not checked the scale of them, but maybe the Snow Place characters will fit into this scheme as well.
Have a great day, and I will be back tomorrow. Eat cake, if you get the chance 😉
