Birthday candle card in a box

It was my Mum’s birthday on Friday, and she came down with my Dad to spend the weekend with us and the twins. This is the card I made for her:

You’ve got to love a birthday candle, don’t you? The best bit of these cards in a box are that they have a “presence” about them as they are 3 dimensional, but they also fold perfectly flat (as long as you get the decoration and placement right) to go into an envelope:

Mum was very pleased with her card. The twins gave her one of the Banner Blast cards I made the other month, with a Make A Wish sentiment. Smidge insisted on drawing round his hands (with significant help from me) to sign it, and Smudge just happily scrawled in the card and left her mark 🙂

So that’s my latest creation. The flowers are from Mixed Bunch, and the candles were made with strips of Real Red cardstock and the flames are the ornament punch from the Merry Minis Punch Pack cut from yellow cardstock. The yellow I used here is actually a retired colour as I am trying to use up bits and bobs where I can, but any yellow or orange would work here. The card base is Old Olive and the bee-patterned papers are ones which I got free with a magazine ages ago. I thought this was a great chance to use them! The flowers are stamped in So Saffron onto Whisper White for two of the blooms, and Naturals White cardstock for the third flower (on the right of the card). Simple but effective. Finally, the sentiment from Petite Pairs was stamped onto the flap of the box in Basic Black ink.

I hope you have enjoyed this bank holiday Monday post today – I thought you deserved a treat after the radio silence last Tuesday and Wednesday!

I will be back tomorrow with some Project Life inspiration. Though we still don’t know any more about when we will be able to order the Project Life supplies from Stampin’ Up!, I have some suggestions of other items using existing Stampin’ Up supplies. Come back tomorrow to see what…

About Katie

Katie has been crafting for most of her life, but has been an Independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator since April 2010. Her favourite techniques are rubber stamping, heat embossing and 3D decoupage, mainly applied in card making, but she's also an avid memory keeper! She loves the pocket scrapbooking style as it is quick and easy, and makes memory keeping much more achievable for her than the "traditional" option. She would love to share this with you if you are intrigued!
