Apologies for not having a pretty picture to share with you today. I was going to upload some last night, but I felt really unwell so ended up doing nothing but trying to feel better! I thought I felt better this morning, but after having a shower and some food, I’m feeling rough again. Oh, woe is me!!
But I am at work and not dwelling on the fact, other than to apologise to you all for the lack of inspiration this morning. Instead, I was musing on my walk to work:
Why do I craft?
I craft to relax. I craft to create (hopefully) pretty things. I craft to be able to give people something special for them, as opposed to buying cards that are more generic. I craft for the sense of satisfaction and pride I have when people ask “where did you buy that” and I’m able to say “I made it”. I am sure there are a lot of additional reasons, but those are the short answers that pop into my head.
The main reason, though? I craft because I can’t not craft!
When we had the twins, life was soooo hectic and exhausting that I basically did no crafting for a year. And that *hurt*. I desperately wanted to do something sticky, but I just needed to eat, sleep, shower, etc. more. So when I was finally able to claw back a little bit of time for me, I crafted. It’s not been an easy ride, finding time to do my crafting, and some weeks it still gets lost in the whirlwind that is life – especially the weekends when we go away, because we leave on a Friday and Friday evening is my “designated” crafting time. But I am getting to do more, and sometimes I ignore the jobs and go for a crafty “fix” instead, as life is too short to always be working!
When I see new ideas and new stamp sets, I get inspired, and it lifts me up. Everyone should have something in their life that makes them feel like that. Sure, somtimes I feel a bit of pressure (like Father’s Day when we needed 4 cards and we were on holiday for the week and a half beforehand!), but I still manage to get the required cards made, even if I go for a simpler design for speed. But to be honest, I am a pretty “clean and simple” kind of gal anyway, so it’s not too far from where I want to be. I am still working on finding the balance between “clean and simple” and “empty” some days! But that’s half the fun of crafting – I’m always learning. There are always new ideas, new techniques, new people, new products. And I love it.
So today I would love it if you could share your ideas about why you craft? Is it to impress people with your skills? Is it to “save money” (we all know it doesn’t happen, but the satisfaction of the make is good, no?)? Is it to fulfil the need in your life, like me? Or is there another reason? Go on, let us know!
Have a great day, and I will upload some pretty pictures for you as soon as I can!
