Unfortunately, I recently had occasion to make two sympathy/ thinking of you cards. Luckily, the Sheltering Tree stamp set has a wonderful Thinking of You sentiment in a relaxed, friendly-looking font, so this was perfect for the occasions I needed it for.
For this first card, I cut a sliver off the front flap of the card, and stamped the sentiment down the side of the inside flap. I really liked the way this one came out. I also stamped the sentiment along the envelope flap.
For the second card I went along the same lines but slightly different. This time, I cut the image panel to be almost the same height as the card base, but slightly narrower to give a band of colour to frame the image on each side. Again, I was pleased with the effect.
I also stamped the sentiment onto the envelope here.
It is never nice to have to make sympathy or thinking of you cards in these types of events, but having a thoughtful stamp set to make a simple but effective card is something which is greatly appreciated by the recipient. I believe that it also reinforces the message that you really are thinking of them, as you spent the time to sit down and make a card for them, which shows affection to spend your time for them.
I stuck with a muted colour palette for these cards, with Smoky Slate for the card base and sentiments, and Crumb Cake and Pear Pizazz for the trees. The two-tone effect for the leaves was simply achieved by stamping the leaves again without reinking the stamp. I love how easy that is!
